What is the Destination Partnership?

The Destination Partnership is a strategic group of representatives from across Monmouthshire's destination sector, including representatives from attractions, event organisers, hospitality businesses, activity providers, producers and other businesses involved in the visitor economy.

The Partnership will als feature representatives from Monmouthshire County Council, Monmouthshire's Town Councils and local National Park and National Landscape officers.

The aim of the Destination Partnership is to help deliver the goals of the Destination Management Plan 2025 - 2030 through collaborative working, and therefore help shape and support the future development of Monmouthshire's visitor economy. Members will share knowledge, identify opportunities, influence priorities and work together on projects that benefit the county as a destination.

    Who is running this project?

Monmouthshire County Council has a small Destination Team dedicated to supporting and developing tourism across the county. The team manages the Visit Monmouthshire website and social media channels, helping to promote Monmouthshire as a visitor destination.

The team is also responsible for delivering Monmouthshire's Destination Management Plan 2025 - 2030, which sets out a range of priorities and actions to support the sustainable growth of the visitor economy. These include improving the visitor experience, supporting local businesses, promoting the county's unique culture and heritage, encouraging environmental sustainability, and helping ensure tourism benefits local communities.

The Destination Partnership has been established to help shape and support the delivery of these actions, bringing together local knowledge, expertise and ideas from across the sector.

    How will applicants be selected?

We are looking to create a partnership that reflects the diversity of Monmouthshire's visitor economy and communities. Applications will be assessed to ensure a broad range of sectors, interests, locations and perspectives are represented across the county.

We will consider factors such as your experience, knowledge of the area, ability to represent your sector or community, and your enthusiasm for helping to shape the future of Monmouthshire as a destination. We will also be looking for individuals who can commit the time and energy needed to actively contribute to the partnership and support the delivery of its objectives.

Unfortunately, we may not be able to offer a place to everyone who applies. However, if your application is not successful, we would still like to keep in touch and may contact you about future projects, networking opportunities, consultations or vacancies within the partnership.

What is expected of me if I join the partnership?

By joining the partnership you are committing to attending at least two of the four meetings every year, not to miss multiple meetings in a row (without good cause) and to working as an active voice in the meetings / surrounding discussions.

The Partnership is not meant as a lecture from the Destination Team, but as a true collaboration. You'll be expected to help take forward ideas and to work collaboratively with other members of the partnership.

The projects we will work on together.

The specific projects of the Destination Partnership will be developed in line with the wishes of the group as a whole, and we would welcome your input in helping to shape the areas we focus on.

Projects will align with the key themes of:

    • Economic Growth
    • Improved Infrastructure
    • Environmental Protection
    • Enhanced Visitor Experiences
    • Vibrant Culture and Heritage

As a partnership member, you will have the opportunity to contribute ideas, identify priorities and help influence future projects and initiatives that support Monmouthshire as a destination.

How many Destination Partnership meetings will there be a year?

We will aim to have four meetings a year, with half of the meetings online and half of them in person.

There may also be sub-meetings regarding specific task-and-finish projects, although these are likely to be online unless the specific project requires your presence in person.
