    Potholes and maintenance

Driving along Priory Street in Monmouth is akin to driving along a farm track. You need to swerve to avoid the many, deep potholes. Crossing the road anywhere fraught with danger because of uneven surfaces. Visiting town gives a whole new meaning to ‘ break a leg’ or should it be hip? The pavements along the Hereford Road are in a similar state so walking anywhere can be hazardous and I would think cyclists are in mortal danger. Council buildings crumble from lack of maintenance, in fact maintenance seems to be a dirty word. Why bother? . Money is tight but I’m not sure if I can remember a time when it wasn’t. Can’t we have some civic pride and get the roads fixed and the pavements rendered safe? The county has literally gone to pot

    BSL classes

I see there is a vote for funding for lip reading classes, what there is not in the whole of Monmouthshire are any BSL classes. Most affected are the over 60, any chance someone in the the council can take this up? It would be good if a class could be provided for one in the day and an evening one.

    Abergavenny leisure centre

It’s good to see the leisure centre in Abergavenny re-open after the upgrade works, however it is a shame that there are no plans to enhance the experience with improvements in food and drink provisions. Many users are parents/relatives bringing children for e.g. swimming lessons and the viewing area is poorly resourced with no decent refreshment facilities. It would be great if the council could re-visit this. A vending machine is not a good substitution for a cafe.

Footbridge to Severn Tunnel Junction car park

The new car park (with charging points) opposite Severn Tunnel Junction is always empty. It’s not linked to the train station! It’s already built, massively underused, and could encourage more rail use, if only it was connected by a foot bridge to the station. Nobody wants to walk 10 mins along a road to access a station you can see and almost touch. Make it free parking, connected by foot bridge, and actually do something that encourages public transport use.
