Council Leader, Councillor Mary Ann Brocklesby

“Like many other councils, we are currently in a very important phase of our budget process – public consultation. Yes, we want to know what you think of what we are considering doing next year with the monies we have available to spend on your services.

We’ve been promoting the consultation widely, and I would encourage you to read the budget proposals. They include our priorities, investments and savings for the coming council year, April 1, 2026 until 31 March, 2027.

Your voice really does matter, so I’d ask that you do one of the following please: Pop along to a library, community hub or leisure centre and pick up a paper survey; visit Let’s Talk Budget & Priorities, read the proposals and complete the survey, or join us for an online budget consultation session.

You can also pop into one of the drop-in sessions at our libraries and hubs. You’ll be able to sit down and chat to a cabinet member about the proposals, ask questions and share your feedback. You can find out where and when the sessions are taking place by visiting the Let’s Talk Budget & Priorities page.

At the end of the day, we really want to discuss the budget with you.

This set of budget proposals is based on what you tell us matters most. They are your council services, and before we make any final decisions, we want to hear what you think. Your feedback will help us see if we are focusing on the right priorities. It will also show us if these proposals feel fair, reasonable, and relevant to you and your community. We have seen changes made to our draft proposals in previous years based on your feedback. This is the time to have your say on the services we provide to you.

I’d ask that you head over to letstalkmonmouthshire.co.uk/budget-2026-2027 and read what these proposals are, why they are being put forward, and share your thoughts.

The consultation closes at 5pm on Wednesday 18 February. The feedback from the consultation will then be examined and considered carefully before the final report goes to council on Thursday 5 March. Your voice matters, tell us what you think via the survey today. Thank you.”
